Our Mission
Sizisa Ukhanyo’s mission is to offer foreigners and students/volunteers a true, cultural experience of Cape Town as well as the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the less fortunate. The difference between Sizisa Ukhanyo and other student volunteer organizations is the personal attention we aim to give each and every member of the organization.
Sizisa Ukhanyo hopes to make visitors feel at home from the time they first set foot in Cape Town. We like to remove any anxieties that can often accompany a visit to a new place by helping newcomers settle in quickly and easily.
Our Beliefs
Sizisa Ukhanyo is an organization that cares. We like to think of Sizisa Ukhanyo as a diverse family that cares deeply about everyone involved. We believe that this attitude will attract like-minded students who are passionate about bringing positive change to the lives of the less fortunate in Cape Town.

How We Make a Difference to You
After getting settled, Sizisa Ukhanyo then helps their new students begin their experience in Cape Town; an experience that goes beyond visiting the usual tourist attractions by getting to grips with the City’s true culture. We hope to offer each individual the chance to change lives as they are touched by Cape Town and her people.
At present, Sizisa Ukhanyo offers two types of services; a volunteer program and a tourism program.
Working hand in hand with community leaders, Sizisa Ukhanyo’s volunteer program gives visitors the opportunity to help the local community. We would love for volunteers to gain a new and true understanding of Cape Town as they work to make a significant contribution to the upliftment of the community. Through a screening process, Sizisa Ukhanyo will help volunteers find a program of their preferred duration, from one month to six months or longer. We have a variety of volunteer programs to choose from.
Sizisa Ukhanyo’s tourism program offers visitors a full spectrum view of the city and surrounding areas. By offering local knowledge and inside tips, we aim to provide tourists with a more memorable and deeper experience of Cape Town. Being well-connected to the community, Sizisa Ukhanyo offers a wide range of activities and excursions at discounted rates. Whether a visitor’s priority is surfing, wine tasting or township visits, we can help them get the most out of their experience.
Sizisa Ukhanyo aims to bring foreigners and the locals together in a way that is helpful and beneficial to everyone involved. Whether you are coming to Cape Town as a tourist or as a volunteer, if your mission is to enjoy an unforgettable experience of Cape Town and her people, then Sizisa Ukhanyo is ready to partner with you.
About Carl Davis, Our Founder
Carl was born in Cape Town during the Apartheid era. As a ‘coloured person’ in the old South Africa, Carl has first-hand experience with some of the struggles and inequalities that South Africans have faced and still face today. However, Carl was blessed with a family who sacrificed much to ensure he received a good education. After finishing high school and without funds to study further Carl found work at a law firm through friends at his church. He began working as a messenger and slowly worked his way up to become the assistant to the firm’s senior partner, under whose guidance he began studying law.
Carl grew up around people who desired to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. His father works for the Red Cross Society and Carl, when deciding to study law, believed that he could use law to aid the work of people like his father. However, while studying law, Carl realized that what he really wanted to do was create an organization that would make a true difference in the lives of the less fortunate in Cape Town – and so Sizisa Ukhanyo was born.
Many people have been known to fall in love with Cape Town at first sight. And once the Mother City finds her way into one’s heart, she is quite sure to settle there. For born-and-bred Capetonian, Carl Davis, Founder and CEO of Sizisa Ukhanyo, it isn’t just the City itself that has captured his heart but her people too.
Brian William Davis
Operations Manager (part-time)
For over two decades, the South African Red Cross Society has entrusted their (Cape Town/headquarters) premises and (relief) equipment to Brian’s care. During this time, he has also been responsible for fund raising events, administration, overseeing various teams and control of welfare services.
Bringing his years of experience with the Red Cross Society to the team, Brian Davis’s role as Operations Manager/Logistics ensures that Sizisa Ukhanyo is managed effectively, from the smooth, general running of the business down to all the finer details.
Glenda Rose Davis
Office Administrator
Born and bred in Cape Town, Glenda is a mother of two who has experience in the retail industry and administration. After both of Glenda’s children were born, she used her skills to embark on her own business venture of selling perfume for which she built up a large sales team.
Glenda’s experience has more than equipped her for the role of Administration Officer. Added to this, her past success in building up and managing a business will be vitally important for a young but growing social organization such as Sizisa Ukhanyo. And, since all growing youngsters crave special attention, Glenda’s experience in motherly TLC won’t go amiss either.
